YouTube introduces a new mobile webapp (http://m.youtube.com) for iPhone and Android devices. YouTube mobile site gets HTML5 revamp bringing a complete YouTube browsing experience on modern mobile phones.
Features:
● It’s really fast.
● The new user interface incorporates larger, more touch friendly elements, making it easier to access videos on the go.
● It incorporates many of the features you’ve come to expect from YouTube.com, such as search query suggestions, options to create playlists, and the ability to “favorite,” “like,” or “unlike” videos directly on your device.
● As we make improvements to YouTube.com, you’ll see them quickly follow on the mobile website, unlike native apps which are not updated as frequently.
The webapp uses HTML5 to display higher quality video then the built-in iPhone application. You can watch an intro video below…
YouTube has announced support for videos shot in 4K (a reference resolution of 4096 x 3072); otherwise known as 4096p.
This resolution is nearly four times the size of 1080p and has an ideal screen size of 25 feet. For some perspective, IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors.
To view any video in a source resolution greater than 1080p, select “Original” in the video quality pulldown menu.
